 Beata Hlavenková (Morávková)
The most sought after pianist, arranger and composer of the Czech jazz scene Beata Hlavenkova (born 1978) graduated at Janacek Conservatory in Ostrava as the classical music composer in 1992-1998. In 2001-4 she continued her music studies at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, USA and Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residential program for young composers and performers in Kennedy Center, Washington D. C.
In contemporary she has been active as a leader of Beata Hlavenkova Trio (2005 – till today) performing her original compositions together with the most renowned musicians of Czech jazz scene, the drummers Pavel Bady Zboril, Jiri Slavicek, Roman Vicha, and the bassists Rasto Uhrik or Tomas Liska. The Trio (with R. Uhrik and R. Vicha) won the award “Jazz Junior 2005“ as the ensemble of the year plus the Best Composition and Best Music Arrangement awards of the year.
Besides her own band activities, as a composer and performer she has contributed to a special project S´aight meeting guitarist and composer Patrik Hlavenka, Rosta Fras (tenor saxophone), Jaromir Honzak (bass) and Dano Soltys (drums) in 2004. Critically well acclaimed album of the title originated the same year. Summer 2005 has welcomed a remarkable double-ensemble project S’aight and Vertigo Connection winning the music competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. December same year they continued as Open Sextet welcoming renowned players of the international jazz scene Ingrid Jensen (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Rich Perry (tenor saxophone) along the special concerts in Prague. A reunion of all mentioned in prevous line came in 2008 for JazzFestBrno for a special live concert international radio broadcasting program EBU which ranged among the most respected highlights of the Czech jazz season of the year. At 2006 she was the co-founding member and also composer for Jaromir Honzak jazz trio Face of the Bass (with R. Vicha).
In September 2008 she has released co-album with Lenka Dusilova and Clarinet Factory Eternal Seekers, the project where she greatly contributed as a composer and arranger.
In January 2009 she is going to record a new album of her own together with renowned New York jazz players Ingrid Jensen (trumpet, flugelhorn), Rich Perry (tenor saxophone), Dave Easley (pedal steel guitar), Matt Clohesy (double bass) and Jon Wikan (drums). The album to go off in April next year follows a special commission by the Czech jazz label “Animal Music“ of Petr Ostrouchov will lounch a tour in Czech Republic, Austria and Germany in April next year as well.
